A Bend in the Road My intent was to listen only while commuting to and from work, a time of about 30 minutes each way. After the first thirty minutes, I was unable to stop listening. This story was so very compelling, filled with love, hate, fear and excitment.

Well narrated, although I would have preferred Michael Beck as the narrator. The title, "Bent Road" is a misnomer. It should be straight and tedious road. It's very slow and tedious, plodding and repetitious, and the characters do not stand out in any way. What does Marguerite Gavin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book.

Bent Road (Book): Roy, Lori: A remarkably assured debut novel. Rich and evocative, Lori Roy's voice is a welcome addition to American fiction. -Dennis Lehane For twenty years, Celia Scott has watched her husband, Arthur, hide from the secrets surrounding his sister Eve's death.

Bent Road is a long, winding journey, just like its titular street, where murder comes from love, friendship turns to ash and family bonds strengthen only through the worst sort of circumstances.

In her promising debut novel Roy proves that dark secrets hide even in the most wide-open places. Set in the beautifully rendered Kansas plains, "Bent Road" is a family story with a suspenseful gothic core.''--Michael Koryta, author of "Tonight I Said Goodbye.".

"Bent Road is a difficult book to wedge into any particular genre other than "fiction." And that's a good thing. There is a mystery at the heart of it, a bit of romance, and some coming-of-age and coming-to-terms elements, but debut author Lori Roy has created a work that is more of a dark parable than a tale designed for entertainment or /5(29).
